Polizzi is in addition to excellent production of organic olive oil also very good in vegetables. This time we tried his pickled capers with stalk and we placed them into our offer right away. Capers have incredibly beautiful and fragrant flowers. In stores you can most frequently find caper buds, either in vinegar, oil or salt. These are used more as a spice in small quantities, because the taste is very intense. But very good is also a caper fruit that they usually put in the jar together with a stalk. Italians call them “cucunci”. These may be consumed in larger quantities, from the jar, like pickles. And once again Polizzi’s capers are very non-industrial, that means neither too salty nor sour. Yummy. Best eaten directly from the jar, you can also add them to home-made pizza, to salads or to cold pasta salad. Not only with food, also with drinks: garnish Martini with a caper instead of olive. Capers are known as a stimulant for appetite, so this is perfect for aperitif.
I do not know if you knew, Italians have annual festival for capers called "La sagra del cappero", organized on the Salina Island on the north of Sicily, on the first weekend in June every year. On the main square there is food, music and various games - all for the capers. If this is not a respect for food.


 
POLIZZI-WORKING WITH HIS HEART
Polizzi oil-extraction plant was created about 60 years ago by Mr. Luigi Polizzi, who was very versatile and solid man. He began to develop his passion for olive oil. His daughter Michela Polizzi together with her children carried on the family tradition with the same care and attention, dedicating herself to the cultivation of their olive groves situated at an altitude of 600 meters on land in the town of Caltanissetta in the heart of Sicily.
Unfortunately Mrs. Michela died and today her sons Luigi and Mario are taking care of the olive groves and are expanding this great passion for olive oil on to their children.
Besides making organic extra virgin olive oil, Polizzi family also processes various vegetables and fruits.
