ORANGES
Peter Patajac got the idea for such oranges from our neighbors - the Italians. In Sicily, oranges and olive oil is practically their trademark and eating oranges in combination with olive oil is an old habit.
Peter semi-candied orange pieces, which means that he put them in syrup with a lower concentration of sugar. Some orange pieces are peeled, but some are candied with a peel-these add intensive flavor. In the end he puts them in olive oil.

IDEAS FOR TASTING
A bit more about this “venture” he will tell himself in the video, but we can add that these semi-candied oranges in olive oil can be eaten straight from a jar for a dessert, so delicious they are. But of course you can use them for cooking and baking: if a recipe contains oranges, you can add these. And they go well with everlasting classic; chocolate and duck. Peter suggests a cold-cut with a duck on cress with oranges or a duck for a main course prepared with star anise.
We liked them most when mixed: over ice cream or chocolate soufflé. We have also tried apple pie with mixed oranges in olive oil. It was excellent!
And bon appetite!

Peter Patajac, owner of an idyllic small restaurant called Ruj in Karst (Slovenia), awarded chef few years ago with a title Delo's cook of the year (Delo is a daily Slovenian newspaper with the second highest circulation) is not only a great cook but he also creates so to speak ingredients for cooking. Which you hardly compare to anything-so delicious they are.
It seemed like a destiny has brought him to us because he is well aware how important quality ingredients are for a good cooking and behind every product of his stands a great story with which food becomes alive and tempting.
Peter Patajac is making these delicious products mainly out of nostalgia and sentimentality. He has very nice memories from his youth of tastes, smells, which are nowadays unfortunately not present on the store shelves anymore. He misses homemade, genuine masterpieces from the past. So he decided to revive them for his own joy first and then later on he started to share them with others as well.
